Downstream
Measured in decibels downstream SNR represents the difference between the signal you are receiving and the natural level of noise on the line.

Upstream
Measured in decibels upstream SNR represents the difference between the signal you are sending (to the central distribution point) and the natural level of noise on the line.

The higher this number is, the better.
